Shawn Swisher, AIA, LEED AP BD+C was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where his appreciation of place-based architecture began.  After studying architecture at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Berkeley, he returned to his home state to practice architecture and start a family.  Seeking ways to connect with and better understand his local professional community, Shawn joined AIA. He began working with AIA10 to find new ways to reach younger architects who, like him, were finding it challenging to navigate the early stages of their careers. That would lead Shawn to develop Tracing Architecture along with Matt Tehan AIA and James Wesala AIA to explore architecture beyond the buildings into the forces that shape how we work and experience architecture. Shawn is driven to create beautiful, meaningful architecture and strives to engage with the communities in which we build and confront issues endemic to the architecture industry. He is passionate about learning and problem-solving and always seeks to engage in thoughtful conversations.
